RLS: Should Art that Infuriates Be Removed?

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/27/arts/design/emmett-till-whitney-biennial-schutz.html

The article delves into the debate surrounding Dana Schutz's painting "Open Casket", displayed at the White Biennial. Controversially, the painting is about Emmet Till, an African American 14 year old who was mutilated by two white men for flirting with a white store clerk. In the painting, he is painted in his coffin, the focal point being his mutilated face. However, the reason why this painting is being protested to be taken down is that it was painted by Schutz, who is ethnically white. The African-American community believes that he has no ethnic ownership of the genre, and that therefore, he is appropriating it to an extent that the deeper meaning of Till's event is being completely overlooked.

The following questions ensue:

-To what extent should intent influence interpretation? Which interpretation should be deemed correct?
-To what extent should a social group have ownership of artistic images and genres?
