Washington Post's Opinion Column, "Separating children from their parents at the border 'breaks my heart'" presents a sympathetic and liberal view towards immigrants whose families have been separated by Trump's zero-tolerance policies. Overall, through the use of statistics, diction and comparisons of the migrant camps to Japanese war camps, the author uses pathos to appeal to the reader's need to nurture. Consequently, the author aims to portray Latin American immigrants in a more humanitarian light than the rest of mainstream media has to provoke reflection on the country's immigration policies and incite action.

The Guardian's Opinion Column "The Irish anti-abortion side will lose. There's nothing good about that" vilifies the pro-abortion side as anti-liberal and anti-humanitarian, thus portraying abortion as a reason for concern in Ireland in light of the referendum. This becomes apparent in the use of strategic diction that consistently connotes pro-abortion supporters in a negative light, and the use of logos to accuse the referendum of being rigged. Consequently, the author aims to portray pro-abortion supporters in Ireland as illiberal and aims to do so in order to encourage readers to support the anti-abortion established law.

Source: For Women Under 30, Most births Occur Outside of Marriage
The New York Times Article, "For Women Under 30, Most Births Occur Outside of Marriage" presents college uneducated single mothers in a negative light, posing single motherhood as an invasion on conservative Christian values. This is mainly observed through the use of diction, statistics and omission, and source control which consequently reveals a bias towards the status quo. Ergo, the article aims to criticize single motherhood and present its failures due to the lack of education, thus inciting the reader to skew towards the status quo which dictates that legitimate motherhood is materialized in marriage and a proper college education.
